On January 10, 2025, IRS announced tax relief for individuals and business in California affected by wildfires extending the deadline to file various federal tax returns until October 15, 2025. The extended deadline applies to a filing and payment relief as well that were originally due during from January 7, 2025, through October 15, 2025.
The list of filing events the deadline will apply to:
- Individual and business tax returns and payments.
- 2024 quarterly estimated tax payments that were due on January 15, 2025.
- 2025 quarterly estimated tax payments that are due on April 15, June 16, and September 15.
- 2024 contributions to IRA accounts.
- Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns that were due on January 31, April 30, and July 31, 2025.
Additional tax relief provided to individuals and businesses in a federally declared disaster area who suffered losses can be reportable on their tax return. These uninsured or unreimbursed losses can be claimed either on the return for the year the loss occurred or on the prior year return. We are here to help!
